Birthday Books for Ben

Each month the kids at school who have birthdays that month can have new books donated to the library in honor of their birthday. The birthday kids receive the new books in front of the whole school, they get to be the first ones to check out the books, and a bookplate is placed in the front of each book with a message like, “Donated in honor of Ben Collins’ 9th birthday.” It’s a great way to keep the library collection diverse and full of new books, and it gets the kids really excited about books. Ben was thrilled to get birthday books today for the first time at Williams. It’s hard to see in the video below, but he was all smiles.

This is such a great way to promote reading and to help children appreciate the importance of libraries. So pleased we were able to participate.

What a neat idea! That is one unruly cowlick on that kid in front of you!
