About the blog:

The title of this blog is part of a quote from Anne of Green Gables, “Be glad you live in a world where there are Octobers.” This blog is an effort to be glad. I’m trying to document at least one thing every day (or almost every day) that makes me glad…and reminds me to be grateful.

About Katie:

1. I am Mom to one very special little boy and one precious little girl, and wife to my very funny, very laid-back Mr. Right.

2. I love fall, the month of October, New England, lobster, the beach, excellent diction, honest writing, color, design, Anne Lamott, Annie Dillard, Billy Collins, and many others.

3. I have trouble sitting still through commercials.

4. I’m a clean freak.

5. I cry easily while listening to NPR or reading.

6. I love sarcasm and potentially offensive humor.

7. I wish I pursued anything as passionately as my dog pursues a frisbee or as my son pursues…almost anything.

8. I love wordsmithing, and I’m trying to become a better photographer.

9. I doubt my abilities as a mom, but I keep trying.

10. I try to live in grace.

I will qualify this comment by admitting I am your mother and as such believe my three children are the most amazing people on this planet. Actually my grandchildren are probably pulling ahead a little. I eagerly await your postings. Enjoy your days. Love, Mom

    Hi Katie
Beautiful website….and you are an awesome mom. Ben is a testomony to that.

I, too, cry easily-especially during the NPR segment “This, I believe.” Thank you for reminding me what I believe in: beautiful children, loving husbands, laughter, and the power of words.

You know, I still have the beautiful card you made me years ago with the quote. It is actually a part of my fall decorations…really.

Wish I was there to enjoy October in Virginia,

Love your postings – I have just finished my kitchen redo using white cabinets and praa sands counter which is just fabulous – I want a simple subway backsplash and was wondering what glass tile you used. Also did the edges have a pencil liner if you used it on a side wall.
Thanks and I too am thankful for a beautiful space to have family & friends.

Hi Barbara, Sorry for the delay in answering your question. We used Whisper Green glass subway tiles from Da Tile. I’m not sure what you mean by “pencil liner” so I guess we didn’t have that. Hope that helps! – Katie
